Go Green, Anyone?

I’m recycling one of my very first posts because I’m so lazy busy these days and I love this greenhouse so much and wanted to share it with you.  Hope you don’t mind. At least I’ve added some new pictures.

I love my greenhouse.  I absolutely LOVE my greenhouse and we, meaning my husband aka Hunka Burnin Love (HBL) and I, built it ourselves out of doors.  Only doors…..well, except for the roof….oh, and the foundation……and the rafters, and a couple of windows to open for cross ventilation….but mostly just doors.  Mostly recycled materials which makes it very green, don’t ya think?   It all began when I was driving up…or maybe down the road and spotted all these doors leaning up against a building.  They weren’t just any doors, most of them were the kind that have glass in the top part, so I was thinking……hmmm…what could I do with all those really cool doors??   I was on another mission at the time so I kept driving, but I couldn’t get those darn doors out of my head.  I’d lay awake at night running those doors through my head and trying to figure out if I could put all them in my house and whether people would then call me the crazy lady with all the doors.  Then it hit me!!!   I COULD use all those doors in a house, but not MY house……..but a greenhouse.  Actually I’d recently been lusting over a tiny greenhouse made out of windows so doors with glass in the top were perfect!   Now I had to break it to HBL and hope he didn’t think I was nutso.  I love that man, and not just because he never thinks I’m a fruitcake, but because he embraced the idea and couldn’t wait to begin.  Sooo……about 6 months later we finally started working on the foundation.and when we got that done……..about 6 months later we started building the greenhouse.

With the foundation built, work begins on the structure.  Notice my youngest son fishing in the background?  He was a lot of…….ahem…..help.

Notice who’s doing all the work while the guys were standing around watching.  Isn’t that the way it usually goes??

It’s moving right along……..and notice who’s still supervising?  So o.k……we had help, and good help it was.  Thank you Clint and Cindy!

With hands on her hips, she’s keeping a watchful eye on the guys so they do it right.

My boy has moved to the side of the pool to continue …….ahem……….helping.  Good grief…….Is that a fishing pole in his hand????

Rafters up and almost finished……..

Done!  Finished!  Compete!   Well…..almost anyway……but isn’t it beautiful????   Did I mention how painful it was straddling the roof ridge while putting the roof on?   OUCH!!!!!

All but one of these doors came out of an old school, so what better legacy than to end up providing protection for delicate thriving living plants plus an environment to nurture growth…….just as they use to do in that school in Oklahoma which no longer stands.  Yes, I couldn’t wait to begin this project and neither could Hunka Burnin Love, but somewhere along the way……life happened and our plans were put on hold but it was worth the wait, I tell ya.    We’ve still got some shelves to build and a few other things on the inside but for the most part it’s done and I love it.   I want to move into it but I haven’t figured out where I’d put the bathroom and a girl has to have a bathroom…..with a tub…and a sink……and……and hot water…..and air conditioning…………………

These are recent pictures and now this greenhouse looks like it’s been a part of our landscape for years.

Like the chandelier? I got it for $20.00 at a garage sale.

……….we had a birthday to celebrate.  Hunka Burnin Love turned 39 again and we had a huge celebration.    O.k. so it wasn’t that huge and maybe he’s not really 39 but it was a celebration for sure and his cake was baked by none other than Sassy, the movie starlet, and decorated with HBL’s cattle brand.

She did a great job, don’t you think? Can you make out the “Bar JP” brand?  It really did taste delicious even if it was a bit odd shaped and pitiful looking.  She was so proud of herself.

x

I was pretty proud of myself for the present I gave him.

xSee that chair this picture is leaning against?  It’s a vintage western rocker.  Can you tell I love vintage western?

x

Tera of Olive Hue Designs designed and created this original piece of art just for HBL.  I just asked her to do
“something Western and somehow incorporate our cattle brand into the design”.  She came up with this and I loved it!!  She even made the cowgirl a red head and the only thing I asked her to change was the boots.  I wanted her to wear a pair of Rocketbuster Happy Trails boots that I covet in the worst way and after she made that one slight change, the picture was perfect.

x

I loved what she did so much that I’m going to have her make a custom piece for each of our 13 grandchildren for Christmas this year.  Now all I’ve gotta do is get her some information on each one and let her stir the creative juices into a treasure such as the one she did for HBL.   Oh and by the way, he LOVED it!

xx

Check out Tera’s Etsy store for lots of great original prints or she will do something custom for you if you just ask.  She also surprised me with this……..

necklace

…….great necklace.  I opened my mail and there it was.  I squealed and then felt guilty since I’d been begging her to start making these necklaces but I had every intention of paying her to do one for me, which she did make but then sent it to me as a very pleasant surprise.  Is she talented or what??

Tera…….you’re the best!

Meh….Casey. Woot….Simon!

I’m exhausted.  Being a stalkarazzi grammarazzi is hard work.  Most of the time is spent waiting or being confronted by the guy we’ve dubbed mean Barry because he keeps demanding that I put my camera away and then stands there and glares at me.  Little does he know, but that doesn’t bother me.  I’m the mother of Sullen Teenager, remember?  I’m use to this kind of treatment and I’m certainly unfazed by some nobody with a title.

Therefore, I give you the real star of this movie, in my eyes.

She didn't want her picture taken. Can you tell?

Sassy was a trooper.  She had to be in hair and makeup by 9 a.m. and walked around outside in the 100 degree heat for nine and a half hours and never complained a bit until they told her they were finished for the day.  She was mad that she was done. Ha!  Wish I could get her this dedicated over keeping her stuff picked up that ends up strewn all over my house.

I got some good pictures of Simon Baker and he was very cordial and happy to stop and pose for a picture, unlike his I’m too good to pose for a picture co-star who shall remain unnamed in this post.

Well, that’s all for now folks.  I’m going to spend a few hours doing some real work and then go for the last day of filming which doesn’t start until 3 p.m. today.  It’s been raining this morning.  I’m hoping for a wet tee shirt shot of Mr. Nice Guy.   Wish me luck.
