I’m recycling one of my very first posts because I’m so lazy busy these days and I love this greenhouse so much and wanted to share it with you. Hope you don’t mind. At least I’ve added some new pictures.
I love my greenhouse. I absolutely LOVE my greenhouse and we, meaning my husband aka Hunka Burnin Love (HBL) and I, built it ourselves out of doors. Only doors…..well, except for the roof….oh, and the foundation……and the rafters, and a couple of windows to open for cross ventilation….but mostly just doors. Mostly recycled materials which makes it very green, don’t ya think? It all began when I was driving up…or maybe down the road and spotted all these doors leaning up against a building. They weren’t just any doors, most of them were the kind that have glass in the top part, so I was thinking……hmmm…what could I do with all those really cool doors?? I was on another mission at the time so I kept driving, but I couldn’t get those darn doors out of my head. I’d lay awake at night running those doors through my head and trying to figure out if I could put all them in my house and whether people would then call me the crazy lady with all the doors. Then it hit me!!! I COULD use all those doors in a house, but not MY house……..but a greenhouse. Actually I’d recently been lusting over a tiny greenhouse made out of windows so doors with glass in the top were perfect! Now I had to break it to HBL and hope he didn’t think I was nutso. I love that man, and not just because he never thinks I’m a fruitcake, but because he embraced the idea and couldn’t wait to begin. Sooo……about 6 months later we finally started working on the foundation.and when we got that done……..about 6 months later we started building the greenhouse.
With the foundation built, work begins on the structure. Notice my youngest son fishing in the background? He was a lot of…….ahem…..help.
Notice who’s doing all the work while the guys were standing around watching. Isn’t that the way it usually goes??
It’s moving right along……..and notice who’s still supervising? So o.k……we had help, and good help it was. Thank you Clint and Cindy!
With hands on her hips, she’s keeping a watchful eye on the guys so they do it right.
My boy has moved to the side of the pool to continue …….ahem……….helping. Good grief…….Is that a fishing pole in his hand????
Rafters up and almost finished……..
Done! Finished! Compete! Well…..almost anyway……but isn’t it beautiful???? Did I mention how painful it was straddling the roof ridge while putting the roof on? OUCH!!!!!

All but one of these doors came out of an old school, so what better legacy than to end up providing protection for delicate thriving living plants plus an environment to nurture growth…….just as they use to do in that school in Oklahoma which no longer stands. Yes, I couldn’t wait to begin this project and neither could Hunka Burnin Love, but somewhere along the way……life happened and our plans were put on hold but it was worth the wait, I tell ya. We’ve still got some shelves to build and a few other things on the inside but for the most part it’s done and I love it. I want to move into it but I haven’t figured out where I’d put the bathroom and a girl has to have a bathroom…..with a tub…and a sink……and……and hot water…..and air conditioning…………………
These are recent pictures and now this greenhouse looks like it’s been a part of our landscape for years.

Like the chandelier? I got it for $20.00 at a garage sale.

I love it!!! This is the coolest thing ever. What a great idea and how cool that HBL was game. I never seen this post the first time you posted it so I’m glad you showed us again, along with the new pictures. And yes, that chandelier is great…and for only $20? I love how it’s by the lake and how beautiful it looks when it lights up at night.
HBL wired the light and we love turning it on at night just to see the glowing effect. It was one of my first posts so not many saw it, which is why I recycled it. *wink*

OMG. I love this. This is my style. I want this. I desire this very strongly. I’ll have to start watching for old doors…
Seriously, this is just too cool. Your taste is so similar to mine. So are you really going to make it a greenhouse, or is it going to become a cool lil backyard cabin to spend the night in?!
And about my new masthead — doesn’t that cute slim lil girl just give me tons of motivation to start working out again? LOL
No, it’s really a greenhouse and used for one as we built it two summers ago. We’ve kind of lagged on getting shelves built inside but otherwise it works great.
I could do several posts of things in/around our house that we’ve done from old and/or recycled material. Maybe I’ll do that.
Yes, I love the cute slim lil girl and she looks just like ya!

I wanna see pix of the new hair do!!
Not a big change but it sure looks much better with all the dead stuff cut off and a few layers added for bounce. Besides….it’s hot so it’s always clipped up. Sorry to disappoint. LOL

Well you know me…. Those arn’t called “Rafters” those are called “trusses” Hello we are in the otts now! Rafters are the boards that go across the bottom of the truss so you can put a floor down. But its a cool looking green, green house.
rafters….trusses…..same thing to a woman. *eye roll* LOL

That is so cool – I love your property – I want to move to the country and have some water close by and land and oh crap, I’ll end up dying in suburbia…*sigh*

You are so very clever and full of vision. I LOVE this! The whole thing! What a brilliant idea to put the chandelier their. It makes all the difference. The perfect touch. So………….when are you coming to my place to decorate?
And here I thought I had stalked my way thru all your archives. I missed this one the first time around. Thanks for the rerun.
