A Foot On The Dash and A Broom In The Eye

Update on the N1H1 and new baby crisis:   All is well *so far* and as of this very second everyone is healthy.  Stubborn can go back to school Monday and Buddha Belly baby is healthy and happy as a little clam.  Thank you all for your comforting words and concern.  Muah!

x

According to Hunka Burnin Love, I freaked out just a tad over the whole ordeal but that’s my job, right?

x

I drove back from Texas to take my turn at keeping Stubborn since he couldn’t go to school all week.  About 10 a.m. today I got two for one.  The school called and Sassy had hurled. *ugh*  They said she’d be sitting in quarantine the window watching for me to pick her up so get here as fast as you can so no one else gets sick.

x

She’s been fine all day.  She’s eaten more than a grown man normally would and it’s still where it’s supposed to be.  Want my theory?  She lost a tooth right before school started and she bled a bit.  I think swallowing blood on an empty stomach *she refused to eat breakfast* made her a little sick.  Pity too, since today was Halloween party day.

x

Now for this disturbing sight.   Yes, that’s me and that’s me driving and yes….that’s my foot up on the dash as I’m driving….and yes, I’m taking my own picture with my foot on the dash as I’m driving.  Can you spot boredom when you see it?

I apologize for this disturbing sight.

Is it so wrong to make oneself comfortable when the road gets long and dreary?

This is what happens when a little boy gets in the way of his sister and her broom.

He’s pretty proud of his shiner and especially telling everyone how much trouble Sassy was in for the incident.  *brothers!*

We’re making some progress on the guest house.  I’ve even finished painting….sort of.  I hate one of the colors and will probably repaint and re-faux the entire thing.  What was I thinking???    I was going for that dirty minty green in this photo of the big rug that the entire room is decorated around, but I ended up with something that looks like the turquoise stones in my favorite necklace.

rug

Not exactly the spa like feeling I had in mind but at least it’s only paint….and another 1000 trips up and down that ladder and 2 trips to Lowes and I’ll have it changed, right?  I’d post pictures but I left them on the camera in Texas.  I’ll try to put them online after next week.

x

That’s about it for me.  I’m in a funk…..still.   Halloween is upon us ya know.  What are y’all dressing as for Halloween?  Me?  I’m going as myself which is scary enough.

I’ve Got Some ‘Splainin To Do

sick

I’m freaking out because N1H1 has hit our family.  My 5 year old grandson, aka Stubborn, has it now.  His mom was all over it quickly so they all started taking Tamiflu right away but I’m really worried about my 2 month old grandson aka Buddha Belly (BB) because I just so happen to have been keeping him for two days/nights when Stubborn got sick.  ARGHHH………my son will strangle me if this little boy gets sick.

X

Did you know there’s nothing you can give a 2 month old if they have N1H1?  They can’t even get vaccinated until they are 6 months old.  My only hope is since Stubborn is a little freaked out by this squirming smiling bundle of joy, he pays him absolutely no attention.  His sister, on the other hand….can’t keep her hands off BB but so far she’s still healthy.

X

I’ve still got BB but will meet his parents later this evening to return him to his rightful place.  Do I tell them and get them all worked up?  Maybe casually mention that Stubborn has a fever so they might watch BB?  What about tossing BB to his parents and running for my car without saying a word?

C

I’m in so much trouble!!!   Did I mention that these new parents didn’t want their nieces and nephews around BB because they were so afraid of N1H1 and I told them they were being a little paranoid?

C

I hate it when my own words come back to bite me in the butt.

X

Anyone got a place for me to hide out for a while?  Witless protection program for crappy Grammys?

HAPPY TRAILS, Y’ALL

This Is Progress, Right??

We ARE making progress on the guest house but it’s still not as far along as it should be.  It’s been a matter of keeping everything running on schedule but there’s always that one (or sometimes two) that throws a big monkey wrench in the whole works and brings progress to a halt.

S

In this case it was the plumber.  Or maybe it was the electrician.  I think it was both of them that kept calling and rescheduling but I can’t keep them straight since one is Donny and one is Danny.  They’re both very good at what they do and therefore end up so busy that our little piddly job just gets wedged in there wherever they’ve got a few free hours.

S

Because the plumber and electrician didn’t get done in time, Hunka Burnin Love couldn’t finish putting up the rest of the sheetrock so the tape and texture guy could mud the walls so the painter (that would be me) could begin painting.  I think I’ve already told you all this so now my problem is how to fit in all the things I want/need in there and still have room for a queen size bed.  After all, what good is a guest house if there’s no place for guests to sleep?

S

Looking at the east side

As you can see from the above picture, it’s basically one big open room and one bathroom.  That white door you see on the tan metal wall is the door into the barn.  If I find a Murphy bed, it will need to go on the sheetrocked wall next to that door and it would open in front of that door, which is fine since it wouldn’t block the door when it’s folded up.  That spot is the only place for a bed (that I can see).

Looking at the west side.

The picture above is of the west side.  You can see HBL and I were able to get the upper cabinets hung even though we had to re-do them twice because of a measuring error not on my part before he left and to the right of the kitchen is the bathroom.  If you think the fans look weird, you’re right but it’s only because we don’t have the blades on yet.  We also don’t have the antique school house lights hung and I hope they get put up before another one gets broken.  ack!

The lights and their housings.

The lights and their housings.

These lights are really large but they don’t look so big in this picture.  The two with the rods will hang in the kitchen and three of the other lights will hang in the living/bedroom area.  Oh, and yes….I have cleaned them up but I like the old patina on the housings and so I just used a little WD-40 to clean them and we’ll hang them just like that, rust spots and all.  Our electrician thinks I’m nuts.

Another view of the west side and the sleeping loft.

From this angle you can see the bathroom better and also the kids sleeping loft.  That platform over the bathroom will have a spiral staircase leading to the loft.  Oh, and yes there will be railing around the loft because I can just picture one of our 13 grands trying to walk along the top of the cabinets or swing from the light fixtures.   That ugly nice rug isn’t staying.  It’s where HBL has been putting the cabinets together so he doesn’t scratch up the floor.  He did that voluntarily.  I swear.

S

GH floorplan

While HBL was gone and it was rainy and dreary and I had nothing else to do, I found a program that lets you draw a room to scale and arrange furniture so I grabbed my tape measure and went to work.  This is what I came up with and bear in mind, it’s tentative…..sort of.   Everything but the bed and the television are things we’ve scavenged, reclaimed, or found and already have so the measurements are pretty close to scale. *I can see HBL rolling his eyes right about now*

S

Here’s what I need from y’all.  That queen bed could be horizontal in that spot if need be, because there’s room to have it a couple of feet in front of the door but maybe it would be better to put a Murphy bed there that could be pushed up and out-of-the-way but everything I’ve found online is sort of fugly or plain or weird looking.  I need your suggestions to solve this problem.  HELP!
