I’ve Got Some ‘Splainin To Do

sick

I’m freaking out because N1H1 has hit our family.  My 5 year old grandson, aka Stubborn, has it now.  His mom was all over it quickly so they all started taking Tamiflu right away but I’m really worried about my 2 month old grandson aka Buddha Belly (BB) because I just so happen to have been keeping him for two days/nights when Stubborn got sick.  ARGHHH………my son will strangle me if this little boy gets sick.

X

Did you know there’s nothing you can give a 2 month old if they have N1H1?  They can’t even get vaccinated until they are 6 months old.  My only hope is since Stubborn is a little freaked out by this squirming smiling bundle of joy, he pays him absolutely no attention.  His sister, on the other hand….can’t keep her hands off BB but so far she’s still healthy.

X

I’ve still got BB but will meet his parents later this evening to return him to his rightful place.  Do I tell them and get them all worked up?  Maybe casually mention that Stubborn has a fever so they might watch BB?  What about tossing BB to his parents and running for my car without saying a word?

C

I’m in so much trouble!!!   Did I mention that these new parents didn’t want their nieces and nephews around BB because they were so afraid of N1H1 and I told them they were being a little paranoid?

C

I hate it when my own words come back to bite me in the butt.

X

Anyone got a place for me to hide out for a while?  Witless protection program for crappy Grammys?

X

HAPPY TRAILS, Y’ALL

    Crossing my fingers for you.

  2. Ashley Says:

Thinking healthy baby thoughts but not sending kisses because I’ve been sick the past two days myself!

  3. Pseudo Says:

Oh my, I will be thinking healthy thoughts for you all.

And I hate it when my words come back to bite me too, and it happens more often thatn I like.

Knockin’ on wood the bug stays away from our house. I’m not around the public much, but it only takes one sneezer in the crowd.

ugggg. No words here. I just hope as much as anyone else reading this that all is well. Don’t newborns have a better immune system in the first few months because they still carry the antibodies from mom? Just thinking…. Hugs to you tonight.

  6. Bobbie Says:

Hang in there. I think newborns are safe, you will know in a few days. You have to tell them that the grandson is sick and to watch the little one just to be safe. Don’t panic! That’s the worst thing to do and now is not the time, remember that!

  7. Lori Says:

First of all your not a crappy grandma. You didn’t make this happen. This crap is everywhere and no one (unless they are living in a bubble) is exempt from being exposed to it. Babies have a pretty strong immuntiy. It really will do no good to worry about it. I hope your grandson that is sick feels better soon and that everyone else stays healthy. Hugs and love being sent your way, Lori

    PS Now stop worrying!!!

  8. Janie Says:

Oh, girl. Praying for all of you!

  9. Smart Mouth Broad Says:

You’re the best grammy ever and everybody knows it.

Crossing fingers, crossing toes and sending prayers for Stubborn, BB and all of you.

  10. Midlife Slices Says:

Thanks to ALL of you for the assuring words of wisdom and prayers. Stubborn seems better today and so far no one else is sick. I woke up all stopped up but this darn wind has really been stirring up my allergies so I’m thinking it’s just sinus crap. I Googled “baby immune system” information and you’re right……they do have a better immune system in the beginning so I feel much better now. I’ll be soooo glad when this stuff makes the rounds and scoots on out of here for another 40 years. MUAH!!

  11. Jan Says:

Yowzers, girl! I see I’m a day late, but I’ll echo what everyone else says – tiny babies have a natural immunity and rarely come down with really nasty bugs.

If you need protection, though, I have a spare room in Podunk, Ohio where they’ll never find you ~ and all the goodies you can eat!

    Hugs and muahs!

Okay head this way. You can sleep downstairs and Lord knows I never use the kitchen. BTW, the local hangout is NOT the NH. I go to said local hangout BECAUSE of the NH.

  13. Di Says:

Hey Midlife… I’m having a scarf giveaway… get your patootie over to my place and enter if you like scarves… and that’s an order!

I will say prayers for you and baby, but really, it still seems to me that the “regular” flu is worse that the H1N1. It’s still scary around little kids, though. You better let us know when all is well! :)
    hugs!

  15. Oz Girl Says:

I’m with SMB, you are the BEST gramma ever, not a crappy gramma! My fingers are crossed for y’all and sending lots of hugs and prayers that everyone stays healthy and safe. And the ones that are sick, get better soon!!

  16. JeanMac Says:

Fingers crossed – darn ‘flu – there’s always something to worry about. Hopefully all will be well.

  17. Twenty Four At Heart Says:

Three out of the five of us have now had H1N1. It turned into pneumonia in my 14 year old, but that’s because he was misdiagnosed by some idiot doctor. I heard on the news the other night that 1 out of every 5 kids under 18 has already contracted H1N1 but most of them don’t even realize THATs what they’ve had. I will send good thoughts your way. Please keep us updated on how everyone does!

  18. Midlife Mama Says:

He’ll be fine. But you could just hand him off, then send an email… “by the way…” LOL That way you’re safely in the distance when they find out. LOL

  19. steppingthru Says:

Don’t head to my house. This will be the 2nd place they look. I’m just claiming that BB (love it) has such a good immune system that he won’t get sick at all this winter. Be sure to let me know where you decide to hide out.

  20. Nothing Fancy Says:

OH NO!!!! I hope everyone is happy and healthy now! Babies are more resilient than you think…and hopefully BB is just fine!

  21. terri t. Says:

I’m sure BB is ok……just hope you and your beloved hunk don’t get sick…

  22. Bonnie Baker Says:

I think your son is so lucky to have you to help out with the kids…I wish I had a You. Hope everyone is feeling well soon.

  23. delaney55 Says:

Baby should be fine, don’t worry. The flu has been around in all sorts of mutations forever and as long as you take care of whoever comes down with it and they don’t have an underlying health condition they should be fine, just feeling crappy for awhile. I hope everyone in the family that is sick gets well soon.

  24. auntchris Says:

    Hi MLS,
    Daaaaaang,
This Swine Flu thing is scaring me like crazy.
We all prayed for BB when he was born.
Now we will all pray from him again.
    Please be careful.

  25. croneandbearit Says:

Hello dahlink — You are soo not a crappy grammy – you are an amazingly loving lady but you can come hang out with me – there’s no H1N1 or any other flu here just a slobbering dog, a witless old woman who thinks she can now write not one, not two, but three blogs, and a sweet retired fella trying his best to keep up with us. Oh yeah…and the housepainter with the weird curlycue ponytail. achooo — uh-oh, cancel everything after hello…

  26. Mona Says:

I’m a crappy grandma too…I’m not even into babysitting any more and I used to love it! RELISH it! Now I just sit and watch my daughters play “grandma”…Oh well…but you can come hide out with me if you like…personally, I think you are wonderful to even take it on…that is such a young age…and I am the mother of seven!! :) I’ve lost my confidence with them completely!!
